Come get educated and learn the skills you need to keep yourself and others safe in College! One in four women and 1 in 16 men will be a victim of sexual assault on a college campus. These are staggering statistics and avoiding this is within your control. Protecting yourself and others from sexual assault requires four distinct skill sets: awareness, education, self-confidence and self-defense. Come learn all four of these skills in an intensive weekend with an experienced group of instructors. Careful hands on training will be included on how to successfully and safely intervene as well as how to deescalate potential violent situations. We teach physical self defense as a last resort and only as a defensive strategy. In addition to leaving more confident and more in control with new tools, you will make new friends and have some fun bonding with other college bound seniors in this Lake George retreat weekend.
The K2P program focuses on Awareness, Avoidance, Setting Boundaries, Risk Reduction and Physical Self Defense when necessary to assist women in assessing and appreciating the risks of sexual assault, kidnapping, unwanted physical contact and encounters. However, of equal importance in reducing and potentially remediating these incidents, is the role of men as bystanders who are capable of, willing to and have the means necessary to intervene. A corollary to a bystander’s involvement and an important life skill unto itself is learning to successfully deal with and de-escalate violence, bullying and stalking. This retreat is appropriate for both men and women. We will have combined and separate sessions that address all necessary components of education, self defense and bystander prevention.
